Grenfell Tower

The Chelsea Society is appalled by the devastation caused by the fire at Grenfell Tower, and sends its sincere condolences to the people affected.

We do not yet know what caused the fire, nor whether any measures could have been taken which would have mitigated its consequences.

The Society welcomes the government’s commitment to a public enquiry chaired by a judge, and will consider its findings very carefully.  The Chelsea Society calls for an urgent review of safety standards in all large buildings in Chelsea in the light of the Grenfell Tower fire, and any issues identified, should be rectified urgently in line with the investigation into Grenfell Tower.”

We will campaign for any changes which may be necessary having regard to those findings.

The Society also expresses its support for the Councillors and employees of RBKC who are dealing with the aftermath of this dreadful tragedy in our Borough.

The Society encourages its members to contribute to the relief funds which have been established.
