We are delighted to announce the final in this year’s lecture dates as follows:
23rd March 2015
Colour, Controversy and Chelsea: JMW Turner in late life by Amy Concannon, co-curator of ‘Late Turner: Painting Set Free’ at Tate Britain.
Chelsea Old Town Hall at 6.30pm
Turner’s late years were a period of exceptional creative flowering. Described by John Ruskin as ‘the greatest of the age’, the last 15 years of his life saw Turner produce some of his most famous works. Yet as much as we celebrate this period today, it was a time of much controversy. The talk will explore this extraordinary period of Turner’s life, paying particular attention to his link with Chelsea, where this giant of British art made his final home.
Tickets £7.50 per lecture payable on the door on the night or in advance from the Chelsea Reference Library.
