Picturing London’s River: Artists and the Thames by Amy Concannon, Assistant Curator for British Art 1790–1850 at Tate Britain
The Thames has inspired some of the greatest paintings ever to be produced in Britain. The lecture will journey up and down the river of the 17th to the mid-19th centuries, featuring the work of Canaletto, Rubens, Richard Wilson, John Constable and culminating in a focus on JMW Turner, who was born streets away from the Thames and breathed his last breath right by it, in Chelsea.
