As we all know, noisy motorbikes and “supercars” are a menace in Chelsea
Last year RBKC piloted acoustic cameras to good effect. They fined 100+ drivers and there were zero repeat offenders.
However, this relied on a PSPO (Public Space Protection Order) – which they currently have only in Knightsbridge. In order to use acoustic cameras across Chelsea, including in Royal Hospital and Chelsea Riverside Wards (where they get lots of reports of noisy vehicles), RBKC must consult on a Borough-wide PSPO.
The consultation has started and will close on 22nd August. The Chelsea Society supports this proposal and we hope that RBKC will introduce a Borough-wide PSPO this year and install more accoustic cameras.
RBKC needs residents to answer an online survey to justify their approach, and we would urge all members to complete the survey at https://consult.rbkc.gov.uk/ communities/nuisance-vehicles/
This should help to solve the problem in Chelsea, but the government needs to change the law to require much more effective silencers to be fitted to motorbikes and high-performance cars. We hope that Greg Hands MP will take this up with the Transport Minister.
