Chelsea Society members were invited to a buffet lunch at the Charterhouse at 1pm, followed by a tour of the buildings conducted by one of the Brothers.
There had been a Carthusian monastery there since 1371. It was dissolved in 1535 and became a Tudor nobleman’s home. It became a school in 1614, which moved to Godalming in 1872, and is now a residence for elderly gentlemen (and has recently admitted some ladies).
