The Chelsea Society has been concerned, since the Post Office in Kings Walk closed, that there is no Post Office in Chelsea east of World’s End. The Post Office in the Royal Hospital is really for the pensioners, and offers a very limited service with limited opening hours.
For most of the time since King’s Walk closed, the Post Office did not want to open more branches, but there now seems to be a change of policy. We have seen an e-mail from Laura Tarling, their External Affairs Manager as follows:
“As part of our new retail strategy we are opening more small branches, especially in urban areas, so that we can offer customers convenient access and longer opening hours. We are advertising for retailers in the SW3 post code area to run a Post Office alongside their retail businesses. This means that we will be running a general advertisement to see if there is interest in opening up a number of new branches in area…..”
The Chelsea Society is contacting local landowners and retailers to encourage one of them to take up this opportunity.
