Thames Panorama

Message from the “Panorama of the Thames” project

“During the past couple of Covid years we have not been able to give our Panorama of the Thames presentations to local groups and societies along the river.  In the years prior to the pandemic we gave over 30 presentations to local audiences which also gave us an opportunity to sell our book, now our only source of funding. We have been working hard on the project during the lockdown and  have a new presentation which we would very much like to come out and show you, when it is safe again to do so.

Some Chelsea Society members have already bought a copy of our Thames and Hudson hardback book “A Riverside View of Georgian London” and as your Society has supported us in the past, we would like to offer all your members an opportunity to buy a copy at a substantial discount from the book shop price. We are offering genuine signed, first edition, copies to any member of the Chelsea Society for just £20 during December 2021. After Christmas this will revert to the usual price.

You can see a video about the book and read unsolicited reviews here: http://www.panoramaofthethames.com/1829.html

There is no better  gift for anyone interested in the history of London and the Thames Riverside than this handsome view of the banks of the river, showing the buildings, features and landscape from Richmond to Westminster in 1829.  This hardback publication, which has received excellent reviews, is the result of a painstaking digital restoration of the rare original Georgian panorama of 1829.  Information and detail about life at the time enriches the images – the people who occupied the grand houses and estates, the industries along the working riverbank, the pubs, and the boats.

The book weighs 2Kg and even 2nd class post costs £5 per book but if there are more than, say, 5 books being bought by members of the Society we could deliver those free of charge to a nominated person for distribution locally.

To get this Special price and find out how to pay, members should just email info@panoramaofthethames.com and let us know that they are a member of The Chelsea Society.

Each book we sell contributes a small amount to the continuation of this non-profit community project.
