Visit to Thames River Police Museum

Event date | Sep 30, 2014

A Celebrate The River event

2.30pm

The Thames River Police are the world’s oldest organised police force. The Museum will fascinate anyone interested in the history of the River Thames, it is situated within an old carpenter’s workshop that once repaired and maintained the rowing galleys that were used to patrol the river. Our visit will be hosted by the Honorary Curator, a retired Thames Police Officer with many years experience, who will explain how and why the force was originally set up in 1798. He will also relate some of the interesting tales of shipwrecks and murders along these waters. The visit will last about 90 minutes.

Places on the tour are restricted to 15 people on each date; therefore you are advised to book early. Details of how to get to the Museum and other information will be sent with your tickets.

The cost of the visit is £15.00

Please note, this tour consists of standing and walking, including stairs.
